How Much is 8.5%?

Does a fraction of one second make a difference in your life? How about one full second? In an Olympic meet, it can make the difference between a gold medal and no medal. How large an amount is 8.5% of a total? Is it an amount you are willing to toss aside as being worthless? What if it is 8.5 cents, $8.50 or $8.5 million? What are your criteria for surrendering?

If you have given up on accomplishing a goal in 2013 that you haven’t made the progress on you had hoped to, don’t give up so quickly.  Imagine you are scuba diving and have zero oxygen left as you find yourself too far down to make it to the surface without oxygen.  Now imagine you have 8.5% of your total oxygen.  That gives you time to enjoy your experience in a leisurely way and get back to the surface in the timing you desire. The relativity is in your mindset and 8.5% does not equal zero.

There are 31 days remaining in 2013 and that’s 8.5% of this whole year. Have you done the things you set out to in January? None? Some? I’m happy with certain things I have done consistently with my 91.5% of this year such as sticking with a disciplined exercise routine and I’m happy with what that commitment has brought. I’ve been less consistent in my meditation routine and know that now is not the time to throw in the towel and say “I give up; I blew it.”  The year is not over and I have meditated for the last 21 days – every day.

Today you can make a decision to go toward what you do want, commit to it and enter 2014 with a track record under way. You can toss 31 days onto the trash heap or something in between with more or less consciousness. Will your choice leave you feeling like you won a gold medal or bring a feeling of defeat to mix with your optimism in the new year. If you are in the now, it’s never too late.

Having a coach to assist with accountability is a great way to achieve success with your goals and I’d love to help you reach them. Conscious choices and commitment can create a magic formula. In my world, 8.5 can be much greater than 91.5 as the power is in the present. Give yourself the gift of the now, the next, the becoming you.

It’s all improv,
